Scarcely documented, the post World War 2 period saw the boom of a new generation of queer enclaves in many places including the greater Los Angeles area. As postwar queer visibility was met with resurgent repression, local civic leaders eagerly enlisted in the antigay crusade. The city council adopted a resolution in 1947 imploring the LAPD to use "every latitude in its power" to close gay bars and even threatened to criminalise "a normal act of shaking the hand of a friend in order to reach these homosexuals."

In the 90s, moral panics ensued over visibility of queer cruising in publicly owned spaces and parks. In vilifying park sex, police would close the parks and often cruise the parks themselves as an act of aggressive non-sexual visibility (as documented in Ultra Red's "Ode to Johnny Rio").

In 2020, amidst the strict but necessary government guidance for Covid-19, middle class family units stand at the entrances of their local parks, rattling the gates, lamenting over a temporary and mild panic of their own. Their behaviours curbed, their control, severed.
